An amazing Story!

Last week, when we landed in my native Switzerland and after we had de-boarded, my travelling companion realized that he had forgotten his iPhone on the plane. We immediately contacted the "Lost and Found Office" at Kloten airport and as per their suggestion filed a report at the local police station.

And then my friend remembered that the iPhone has a built-in application – "Where is my iPhone?" – that can be activated from any computer and which is able to locate the phone, wherever it is in the world. He activated the app several times, didn't give up and, surprise, it eventually gave him the exact location with the street address and the house number in Nürensdorf.

The police found out that one of the tenants worked at the airport. They searched the place, found many stolen objects, arrested the thief, and returned the iPhone and that is the end of the story, but not quite.

It is of course, reprehensible to steal from others,
but plain stupid to steal from ourselves
- Peter Ustinov

I learned a valuable lesson and it is not about being more careful with valuables. My travel companion, Dan, had to try about ten times until he got a reaction from his computer and eventually found the location of his iPhone. How many of us would have given up after two or three tries and said, "Too bad. It doesn't work"? It is not only the awesome technology that found the phone, but his perseverance. And this is the lesson I learned.

To conclude, here is a suggestion for future thieves. Don't ever steal anything technical; no car, no computer, no cell phone. And wouldn't this be an opportunity to give up stealing altogether? It's not nice, anyway, and (see the quote above) you would steal your integrity, your self-worth and your pride.

This amazing story has an important life lesson: "Don't give up!" And isn't this much, much more important than the (almost) loss of a cell phone?
