Making Designer Outdoor Furniture Affordable

We all have experienced how hard it sometimes is to find European design furniture in Canada, especially if we don’t want to spend a whole fortune on it. This specifically applies to outdoor furniture. „When I bought my first patio set here in Toronto, I was shocked how expensive it was, even on sale“ says Velago founder Urs Villiger.

It had to be possible to offer designer patio furniture at affordable prices. With help from friends in Switzerland, Villiger started his own business. The goal was to streamline all processes from manufacturing to sales to achieve maximum quality at unbeatable prices. The result was a lean product line - Velago sells roughly only 25 different products today – together with a sales concept that focuses mainly on online sales, instead of pricey retail locations.

„We purchase our patio products directly from the manufacturers and eliminate any intermediary fees. Also, instead of offering hundreds of different products, we focus on just a few patio sets and accessories. That way, we can significantly increase the quality and at the same time optimize the production costs.“


Velago’ collection focuses on modern outdoor furniture and contemporary patio furniture designs and weather resistant, extremely durable materials. The patio sets are made from all-weather resin wicker and powder coated aluminum frames, produced to fulfill high quality standards.

All-Weather Resin Wicker for Highest Expectations
All-weather resin wicker was designed predominantly for use in outdoor furniture. It looks like natural wicker, but is made of synthetic polyethylene fibres. This material only requires minimal maintenance and is resistant against the elements, i.e. the sun's UV-rays as well as against humidity, water and frost.

While with traditional wicker, the colour is painted onto the furniture, the colour of all-weather resin wicker patio furniture is contained within the fibre. Consequently, it has a much longer life span and maintains the elegant visual appeal of the patio furniture. Resin wicker is also very elastic and sturdy, providing for great stability and seating comfort, those exact features that traditional wicker is known for.

Furthermore, all-weather wicker requires much less maintenance. It is very easy to clean; dirt can simply be hosed off. Colours are UV resistant and do not require to be re-painted.
