A Taste of Swiss Cities.

"Taste my City" is perfect way to see the culinary highlights of a Swiss city from the viewpoint of a local. This new service allows you to pick a city and do a personalized culinary walk with up to seven stops – all picked by locals. Each stop takes you to a different place with small plates or a surprise drink on offer. The end result is a full stomach, having seen the city through the eyes of a local.

Meet your Swiss Travel Guide. 

Thanks to this new app by Swiss Travel System AG, travelers can now plan their visit to Switzerland to perfection and never miss a highlight. The Swiss Travel Guide continuously provides facts about the Swiss Travel Pass and all included services. It even counts the kilometers traveled by train, bus and boat and attracts with various digital coupons.

Ride the Glacier Express the Excellent Way!

In winter 2018/2019 the Glacier Express launches its Excellence Class, its new premium railcar class. It will offer comfortable lounge seating with a total of 20 seats and stunning views from its panorama windows. Every guest is guaranteed a window seat. The surcharge includes services such as a personal travel guide, wide array of food and tablets for on-board entertainment.

Edelweiss Expands its Destinations.

Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline, is further expanding its route network to North America and operates this flight together with Swiss International Air Lines. This year Edelweiss will expand its flight destinations even more: Orlando is the airline’s second destination in Florida after Tampa. New destinations also include Denver, where the airline will fly to twice weekly, from June to September. Since summer 2018, it flies to Vancouver up to 4x weekly, together with Swiss International Airlines and Air Canada.

Basel Region

New Automobile Show.

Grand Basel is a new global automobile show that focuses on collectors' pieces from the past and present as well as on new cars of exceptional value and impeccable quality. It is the world's first and only show to present the automobile in contexts of art, design, architecture and lifestyle. Grand Basel talks to an international audience of connoisseurs, collectors and enthusiasts, celebrating excellence in motion. It will take place in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong.

Bern Region

Ride the Royal Way!

A visit to Männlichen promises a memorable near-to-nature experience, all year around. Since summer, the Royal Ride, the new open-air platform on the cabin roof, makes the approach through the Bernese Oberland, along the Jungfrau massif and Bernese Alps, even more impressive. Brand new signage leads the guests throughout the entire experience, from the train station in Wengen through to the Royal Walk at the summit.


Get to Saanerslochgrat more quickly. 

Once the cable car is in operation, the travel time will be reduced by one third to 11 minutes. These new ten-people cabins will bring guests to Saanerslochgrat starting in the 2018/19 winter season. The number of guests that can be conveyed has been increased from 1,300 to 2,000 and the comfort level raised. For example, there will be more room in the cabins and the entries will be at ground level.

Listen to the Sound of Silence.

From November 9, 2018 to July 7, 2019 Museum of Communication in Bern is dedicating its next major exhibition to silence. Although more and more people are looking for peace in the hectic of everyday life, our relationship with silence is an ambivalent one: the idea of complete silence is pleasing and at the same time alarming. It is time to take a closer look at this ambivalence with a bold and innovative exhibition that allows visitors to experience its variety: a three-dimensional listening landscape invites visitors to discover more. An exhibition that will shed light on the social and historical balance between noise, quiet and silence.

Eastern Switzerland

Ride the World’s First Solar-Powered Cable Car!

A new cable car that carries passengers up to the top of the  Staubern mountain in eastern Switzerland has become the world’s first to run on solar power. The Staubern solar-powered cable car, which is being inaugurated in the beginning of April, transports passengers from the Rhine Valley up to the Staubern restaurant and guesthouse at an altitude of 5906 ft. / 1,800 m, situated between cantons St. Gallen and Appenzell Inner Rhodes.

Graubünden / Engadin Valley

See Bears up close in Arosa.

In the beginning of August, a new animal protection project launched in Arosa, in the canton of Graubünden. In collaboration with the international animal protection organization FOUR PAWS Arosa Tourism opened a vast natural habitat for up to five rescued brown bears. Bears that were previously mistreated are able to live happily in a natural environment and in a way appropriate to their needs.

Lake Lucerne Region

New Shuttle to Bürgenstock.

Since June 2018, the hotel on the Bürgenstock is better connected. In just 30 minutes, the new shuttle boat takes guests from Lucerne to the Bürgenstock at hourly intervals. Hotel guests can travel for free to the resort. In order to reach a comparably high speed with as little energy consumption as possible, the commuter boat has been designed as a catamaran. The investment costs for the new boat were CHF 6 million (USD 6,4 mio / CAD 8,2 mio).


Valais Region

22 Summits in Zermatt to Open.

In December 2018, the Boutique Hotel 22 Summits will open for business. The four-star hotel with 22 rooms has a two-story spa area with an outdoor whirlpool, a trendy bar and a lounge on the ground floor. Its motto: alpine chic meets modern. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise valley station is only a three-minute walk away.

Highest 3S Lift in the World to Open.

The time has come: On September 29, the Zermatt Bergbahnen AG opens the new 3S Cableway from Trockener Steg to the Klein Matterhorn. The cableway is being built in addition to the existing aerial tramway and will increase the transport capacity by 2,000 guests per hour. Thus, it improves the ski area connection between Switzerland and Italy. 3S stands for 3-cables cableway. In contrast to conventional single-cable lifts, the 3S cableway has the support and tensioning of the cables separated. This lift is the highest of its kind in the world and has been under construction since spring 2016. Valley station altitude: 9,590 ft. / 2,923 m; Mountain station altitude: 12,366 ft. / 3,821 m; Travel time: 9 min; Speed: 27 km/h; Number of cabins: 25; Per cabin capacity: 28.
