President's Message

Dear Readers,

For our Board, this time of the year marks a return to business after the summer, when we all reaffirm our commitment to our organisation. We also celebrate Switzerland and Canada for being at the top of many accolades and surveys that were received this month.

On September 12, the Fraser Institute revealed the Economic Freedom of the World’s 2019 annual report. This is the world’s premier measurement of economic freedom, ranking countries on the following areas: size of government, legal system and property rights, access to sound money, freedom to trade internationally and regulation.

Switzerland ranks first amongst European countries, fourth overall and Canada is ranked eighth overall.Switzerland has also been ranked most resilient country in the world, further to a study by Swiss Re and the London School of Economics. It ranks first with an economic resilience index of 0.84, Canada scoring 0.81 points.

Our partner, IMD repeats as winner in Forbes’ 2019 International MBA Ranking for one year MBA program, followed by Insead and Cambridge University. Well done IMD!

The Olympic Flame for the Youth Olympic Games arrived on Swiss soil on September 21 with a ceremony attended by representatives from the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud. Over more than 3 months, the Flame is taken on a Torch Relay crossing all of Switzerland’s 26 cantons. It will end its journey in Lausanne for the Games’ opening ceremony on 9 January 2020. The Youth Olympic Games give the opportunity to young people aged 15 to 18 to compete internationally at the highest level and in a wide range of Olympic disciplines, combining performance, culture and education.  At the SCCC, we encourage the positive values of sports, amongst which respect, friendship and commitment.

On October 28, Samuel Dionne, Head of Communications of the Crypto Valley Association (Switzerland) will talk about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. You will learn the basic aspects of blockchain and the role of cryptocurrencies, how they work, the positive and negative and ask questions during this interactive discussion to demystify the subject through live examples. Register here (limited seating).

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events. Stay tuned for more exciting initiatives in 2020!

Sincerely,

Alexandra Soriano
President
